About

Jonathan Yeap

A multi-award winning full-time executive photojournalist with SPH Media since 2006, Jonathan is most inspired by human subjects.

Believing that nothing in this world is without a decisive moment, he  is constantly on the move for new subjects in different environment.

To the lensman, photography is an immediate reaction. It is a spontaneous impulse coming from an ever-attentive eye which captures the moment and its eternity.

Jonathan was a merit winner at the Inaugural Singapore Young Photographer Award 2006 and later went on to represent Singapore  in the ASEAN Young Photographers' Award in 2007. He had taken part in numerous group exhibitions at museums and held his 1st solo exhibition in 2008, documenting the Port of Singapore. The photo exhibition was held over 2 weeks at Vivocity.

In 2015, he won 3rd place at the prestigious Sony World Photography Award, Professional Sports Category for his series of work titled "Underwater Grace", documenting the training regime of the national synchronized swimming team. His winning work was selected among 87,000 entries. In the same year, he was also awarded "Silver" for sports photography at the 14th Asian Media Awards in Bangkok, Thailand.

In 2016, he clinched the "News Photo of The Year" at the annual Singapore Press Holdings Chinese Media Group Award Ceremony. In 2019, his documentary work on social inequality bagged the "Excellence in Digital News Content" and more recently in 2020, his photograph on the female embalmer won him the “Feature Photo of the Year” and Bronze at the WAN-IFRA Best in Feature Photography.
